Disaverio nets first hatrick of the season
Lakewood, CO - The Mullen High School JV team earned its first regular season victory over the Boulder Bison with a 4 to 2 final score. Anthony Disaverio scored his first regular season hat-trick and Mitchell Sakic scored once and each also had assists along with Evan Churchill, Connor Morris, Lucas Doyle, and Hunter Dell.
The first period was played to an even 1 to 1 draw. Boulder took the lead early in the 2nd period but the Mustangs showed their determination and resiliency and Disavario scored two of his three goals in the remainder of the 2nd period.
The Mullen JV took the 2nd period momemtum swing into the 3rd and Anthony completed his hat-trick with a power play goal. Scooter Bandimere was the winning netminder and stopped 16 from 18 shots on goal.
Mullen JV kicks off 2011 / 2012 season against defending state champs
Loses at home to Arvada
Lakewood, CO - In the season opener, and with only 9 skaters, the JV squad were up against the defending league and state champion Arvada. Despite a very strong effort, the depleted Mullen bench was outmatched and outnumbered by Arvada’s depth, and ended up on the wrong end of a 9 – 1 score . The Mustangs played Arvada close, ending the first period down 2 – 0. Arvada went their bench in the second and stretched the lead to 7 – 1. Conner Morris on the power play, with an assist from JoJo Sara broke the ice for the Mullen. The Mustangs came out and played Arvada tough in the third period, despite being outnumbered. Scooter Bandimere kept the team in the game with some incredible saves, before relinquishing the net to John Oancia in the third. Despite the difficult task in front of them, the Mustangs showed tremendous character in battling the state champions.
