Mullen Hockey Tebowing after their championship in Aspen
Aspen, CO - The Mullen Major-A tournament team completed its fall tournament season with its second championship in Aspen Colorado against a strong and favored Summit Major A team. The Mustangs won when the overtime shootout went to a one against one basis with a winning goal by Garrett Lee when the Summit Tigers attempt was saved by freshmen goalie Eric Bond. Mullen had lost its two Saturday round robin games and was an underdog going into both its Sunday semi-final and championship campaigns.
Mullen led for most of the game with a first period goal by Kyle Burkhardt assisted by Sean Detine. Summit scored mid-way into the third period and the game remained tied for the remainder of the game all the way to the shootout to decide the championship. After the five man shootout was tied was the time for the Mustaings to claim their second fall championship. Way to go Mullen !!
Winning goalie Eric Bond made 18 saves from 19 shots and stopped 5 of 6 in the overtime shootout.
Englewood, CO - The Mullen Hockey Major-A tournament team edged Littleton 4 to 2 to win the Major A Earlybird championship at the Family Sports Center Hamilton rink. The championship is a great start to the beginning of a new season campaign for the Mullen Hockey family.
Sean Whitfield, Garrett Lee, Cameron Ghia, and Brady Brehm each scored with assists by Jack Halbrook, Nick Zyzda (2), Ian Boyle, and Cameron Ghia to provide a convincing win against a very competitive Littleton team. Netminder Eric Bond, with two tournament shutouts in previous games, made 18 great saves from 20 shots.
The Major A team will now prepare for its next tournament in Aspen in late October.
